Meet Dr. Doreen

As a leading Sydney orthodontist, Dr Doreen was awarded the Outstanding Young Orthodontist of the Year in 2022 by the Australian Society of Orthodontists.

Dr Doreen is a dual-qualified dentist and AHPRA-registered Specialist Orthodontist in Sydney. She is also listed on the Orthodontics Australia specialist directory.

Doreen completed her Dental Degree in New Zealand and went on to complete a further three years of full-time training to specialise as an Orthodontist at the University of Sydney.

Doreen loves being an Orthodontist in Sydney and feels great joy in creating beautiful, confident smiles for everyone. She truly believes that everyone deserves to have a great smile and is here to help you achieve that.

Doreen is also a member of various professional bodies and likes to keep up to date with the latest technologies to provide the best patient care. She has presented her research at various international, Sydney Orthodontic and Dental conferences and has been published in Medical, Dental and Orthodontic journals. Her published research includes work in the European Journal of Orthodontics, which can be viewed through PubMed and the University of Otago research archive. Doreen has a keen interest in sleep apnoea and accelerated orthodontic treatment.

Born and raised in New Zealand, Dr Doreen began her career with a Dental Degree from the University of Otago. She later pursued specialised training in Orthodontics in Sydney, starting in 2013. In 2018, she established Ortho Co., a Sydney orthodontic practice dedicated to assisting individuals in achieving confident, healthy smiles.

In 2016, Dr Doreen was awarded a Travelling Fellowship to the University of Florence to conduct research on sleep apnoea, showcasing her dedication to addressing important issues in the field while prioritising patient wellbeing and satisfaction. She was also an invited speaker at the FDI World Dental Congress, one of the world’s major international dental conferences, hosted in Sydney in 2023.

Dr Doreen’s noteworthy contributions to the field of orthodontics were recognised in 2022 when she received the prestigious title of Outstanding Young Orthodontist of the Year from the Australian Society of Orthodontists.

Dr Doreen is an honorary clinical tutor at the University of Sydney and currently serves as Federal Secretary of the Australian Society of Orthodontists. She is an international speaker and has presented at orthodontic conferences in Australia and internationally, including the Ormco Forum in Sydney in September 2025 and the Ormco APAC Forum in Macau in June 2026.

Meet Dr. Safa Al-Shafi

Dr. Safa Al-Shafi is a highly accomplished and fully qualified Specialist Orthodontist, holding prestigious degrees from both The University of Sydney and Griffith University, where she excelled academically and clinically. Throughout her extensive training, Dr. Safa demonstrated a passion for advancing orthodontic science. Her clinical research focused on accelerated tooth movement, an area of growing interest in the field, and she was honoured to have her work published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, one of the most respected journals in Orthodontics.

With a patient-centered approach, Dr. Safa is known for her warm, approachable demeanor and empathetic care. She believes in creating individualized treatment plans tailored to the unique needs and goals of each patient, ensuring they feel comfortable and confident throughout their orthodontic journey. Her dedication to achieving excellence in treatment outcomes has earned her the trust and loyalty of her patients.
